Word of the Day: "Dai, dai!" click to hear an audio clip literally means "Give, give!" in Italian. Like "alle-alle," this particular phrase is often used at bike races to urge on participants, much the way an English-speaker would yell "go, go!" Often when we are biking up hills, people shout out "Dai, dai!" to give us encouragement. Of course, it could be that they can see the agony on our faces and, not wanting to witness our suffering, are actually using their limited grasp of English to tell us to hurry up and "die, die", but we're pretty sure it's the former and not the latter).
